At Ural State University of Economics, within the project "Heroes Are Among Us", a meeting with the Chief of the Electronic Warfare (EW) Service of the headquarters of the Central Military District, Colonel Sergei Portnykh will be held.
Sergei Portnykh was born in Voronezh Oblast. In 1994, he graduated from the Higher Military Engineering School of Radio Electronics and in 2001 - from Combined Arms Academy. In military service, he commanded a platoon, a company of radio interference, a separate EW battalion, was a deputy commander of a separate EW regiment, chief of staff of a separate EW regiment, commander of a separate EW regiment and a separate EW brigade, and chief of the EW service of the army.
Sergei Portnykh served in the zone of armed conflict on the territory of the Chechen Republic and North Caucasus and participated in the restoration of the rule of law in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and the Ingush Republic.
Electronic Warfare units of the Central Military District are entrusted with complex and responsible tasks for disorganization of troop command systems and weapons control systems of the enemy, the protection of our troops and objects from technical means of reconnaissance of foreign states, and ensuring electromagnetic compatibility of radio electronic means at the Central Military District. In modern military operations, electronic warfare is one of the most important types of operational and combat support. In local wars and armed conflicts, the role and importance of EW have been very clearly demonstrated, resulting in an increase in combat potential by 1.5 times.
