29 opportunities to grow professionally

The USUE Institute of Master's Studies hosted an Open Day. Applicants had the opportunity to ask questions to the heads of training areas.

In 2023, Ural State University of Economics is enrolling over a thousand students for 29 master's educational programs. State-funded places are provided in five areas, namely: Management, Economics, Applied Informatics, Quality Management, and Technology of Products and Public Catering. However, this does not mean that masters with a diploma in Human Resource Management or Finance and Credit are not welcome in the labor market. These areas are even more in demand, which proves the employment of these specialists right while degree defenses.

“A master’s degree is the second stage of higher education, the stage of a potential manager,” Alla Matveeva, director of the USUE Institute of Master’s Studies, explained. “If you wish, you can delve into the scientific field. But it's also a help for your next step in your professional career. Our university has a wide range of educational master's programs that will give you knowledge and competencies unique for the Middle Urals.”

During the meeting, potential applicants were asked to write in a special application what words they associate with the magistracy. The results were immediately displayed on the screen in the general tag cloud: Professional, Career, Job, Manager, Science, and Thesis. Future master’s students are well aware of what exactly they wish, and, most importantly, they can get from the university.

Master's studies at USUE take place in three forms. A standard full-time master's course takes two years. As part of extra-intramural training, students attend lectures and seminars on Saturdays. This training lasts 28 months. Distance learning involves attending sessions by students twice a year and lasts 29 months. Besides, the USUE Institute of Additional Education offers some  advanced training programs , upon completion of which it is possible to obtain a master's degree under an accelerated program.

“If you are worried about possible changes in the higher education system in our country, do not fear. Master's degree has been and will remain demanded education,” USUE rector Yakov Silin addressed the applicants: “Today we are heading into the homestretch — we are completing the current academic year and starting preparations for the next one. Our university has extensive experience in implementing various master's programs. We have a strong teaching staff. All this experience is at your service. Don't be afraid to enter and study."

The admission campaign for master’s programs opens on June 20. Students applying for state-funded places should submit all the necessary documents by August 1, namely:  passport, academic credentials and SNILS. Applicants for contracted places with tuition fees can wait until August 26. However, regardless of the chosen form of study, applicants will face entrance tests. They will be in the form of a test containing 20 questions to identify general cultural competencies and 30 questions to identify professional competencies within the chosen specialty.

For each correct answer, an applicant receives two points. Thus, the maximum possible test result is 100 points. The minimum threshold for admission is 40 points. Those who score less will automatically drop out. And the places for master’s degree will be distributed among the remaining students according to the result - the higher the score, the more chances to enter.

Trial testing could be done right on the Open Day just to compare your results with the minimum passing grade, as well as with the results of previous years. So, in 2022, the average passing result fluctuated depending on the area of training from 60 to 84 points.
