Do you know what Half-Imperial is?
About three thousand students of Ural State University of Economics took part in the seventh all-Russian Economic Dictation.
The event has taken place since 2017, and in the Sverdlovsk region, its central platform is traditionally USUE. The theme of the economic dictation in 2023 is “Strong economy - prosperous Russia!” The test covers 30 questions on economic theory, history, global economic processes and financial tasks that any Russian faces daily.
“The action is educational in nature, but for Ural State University of Economics it has another important meaning,” explains Svetlana Pyankova, professor at the USUE Department of Regional and Municipal Economics and Management, vice-president of the Ural branch of the Free Economic Society of Russia. “The dictation allows students to test their level of economic literacy, which is especially important for students at a specialized economics university.”
This is not specially the first time for many students to write a dictation. A third-year student at the USUE Institute of Management, Entrepreneurship and Engineering, Ekaterina Koroleva, first tried her hand writing this dictation in her eleventh grade. Over the past four years, the girl’s knowledge has expanded significantly, and now questions on economics no longer seem too difficult to her. It turned out to be more difficult to remember the denomination of old coins of the Czarist era. But the student has coped with this task.
Besides, that day, students in grades 9-11 of Nizhny Tagil school No. 55 wrote the dictation at the university. They came to USUE to check how ready they were for future admission and studies. The complexity of dictation questions for schoolchildren was reduced. However, it gives an idea of the depth of their knowledge. Apart from writing the dictation, the guys visited the USUE laboratory complex and masterclasses from our university teachers.
“The university is so big and modern,” a ninth-grader Roman Osintsev shared his impressions. “I give thought to enter USUE after finishing school. So far, I have not answered all the dictation questions correctly. It was especially difficult with historical dates. But there are still almost three years ahead. I’ll make up for everything that’s needed.”
The organizers of the event, the Free Economic Society of Russia, expect that over 6,000 Sverdlovsk residents will take part in the dictation this year. All participants will be awarded certificates that will add 2 points to the Unified State Examination results when entering USUE. Scoring over 90 points earns you a diploma and a chance to compete in the finals of the Festival of Economic Science in spring 2024, supported by the VEO of Russia.
