Bazhovsky Marathon
March 2, 2018, the Historical Museum of Polevskoy launched Bazhovsky Marathon dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Polevskoy and the 140th anniversary of P. Bazhov’s birth. The marathon opened with a panel discussion "P. Bazhov’s Literary and Philosophical Heritage in the Development of Territories: Culture, Education, and Tourism."
The participants of the discussion were K.S. Pospelov, head of Polevskoy urban district, D.P. Korobeinikov, project manager ("300th anniversary of Polevskoy"), A.S. Savichev, local historian, G.A. Grigoriev, head of the P. Bazhov’s Memorial House, I.A. Vladykina, deputy director of RG-Ural information and publishing center, N.Yu. Vlasova, professor at the USUE Department of Public and Municipal Administration, and members of public organizations, education and culture.
Samokhina, advisor to the head of Polevskoy urban district, told about the idea of Bazhovsky Marathon and what had already been done in preparation for the anniversary of the city. Polevskoy is closely associated with the name of P. Bazhov. Many tales of the writer are set in the city and its environs. A series of projects related to the P. Bazhov’s heritage aims at strengthening the territorial identity and the formation of the city's brand.
S. Pospelov stressed that the jubilee year should be used to create a comfortable urban environment, enhance the competitive advantages of the territory, and develop tourism. He also spoke about Polevskoy's industrial heritage and about related new projects. In particular, it is planned to expand the museum complex Severskaya Domna with a venue for congress events and to open a restaurant in tune with the whole complex. To develop tourism, there is also an idea to use a unique cascade of ponds, which was used to provide water to metallurgical plants of Polevskoy and the city.
At the end of the discussion, the municipalities signed agreements on cooperation and interaction within the project devoted to anniversary of P. Bazhov’s birth. The signing was attended by officials of Sysert and Zlatoust urban districts.
