Hour of Diplomat

Students of Ural State University of Economics and other universities who are members of the Association of International Students met at USUE with the Consul General of France Mr. Eric Millet.

The USUE Rector Yakov Silin and Vice-Rector for Social Work Roman Krasnov gave a tour around the University for the Consul General. Members of the search group "Honor and Memory" showed the distinguished guest an exhibition dedicated to their trips to the "Vigils of Memory". Then he visited the University Museum, which displays interesting historical exhibits for the 50th anniversary of the University. After that, a meeting with the students took place.

The Rector of the University presented Mr. Consul to the students, "You now have a unique opportunity to meet and ask questions to the Consul General of France in Yekaterinburg Mr. Eric Millet. Studying at our University, you build your future. This meeting can be very useful for you. "

Mr. Consul General began his speech with the history of France and its colonies, spoke about economics and politics, tourism and security. He dwelt on the topic of relations between Russia and France. Mr. Millet spoke in detail about the work of diplomatic missions of France in Russia and specifically the Consulate General in Yekaterinburg.

The students asked different questions to the Consul General: about the political situation in the world, about the position of France, and about his personal attitude towards Russia. The answer to the last question was: "I really like Russia and Yekaterinburg especially."

For a long time, USUE has been cooperating with French universities: more than 15 years with the University of Lyon and 5-6 years with other universities. There are student exchange programs.

The meeting was held within the project "Hour of Diplomat" which has become traditional in USUE where students become acquainted with the work of diplomatic missions; learn new information about different countries, their cooperation with the Urals and Russia. Representatives of 160 nationalities live in the Sverdlovsk region, and in Yekaterinburg, there are more than 30 diplomatic missions of various countries. The guests having already taken part in the project were ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary and consuls general of Benin, Belarus, Azerbaijan, China, Spain, Czech Republic, and Hungary.
