Yekaterinburg students planted apple, plum and cedar

USUE ecological club «Atmosphere» took part in the national campaign for revival of vegetation «Native Forest». Young nature lovers bedded out dozens of future apple, pear, plum, larch, and cedar trees. The trees will be looked after by the pupils of children’s environmental center of the Palace of Youth.

Together with the USUE initiative group UrFU and USAU students armed themselves with spades and watering pots. The members of the non-profit organization «Karp» and concerned city dwellers helped to dig trenches and set out young plants. In total, during the action, Yekaterinburg gave life to hundreds of future trees. In Russia, this number has exceeded one and a half million.

«We received free planting stock from the Native Forest organization provided that about 70% of them will be planted outside the urban environment, and 30% we will plant at our discretion. We chose the area of children’s environmental center of the Palace of Youth because there will be someone to look after these plants. The remaining plants will find their home near the Lake Tavatuy,» a USUE student Daria Vetchaninova, Yekaterinburg co-organizer of the All-Russian action, shared the plans with us.

Gardeners said that they would follow the fate of plants bedded out today. In a year or two, when the roots are stronger, and the tree stems grow up, they will need a new place. The volunteers are ready to come back to help and move the bushes to more spacious conditions.

Despite the fact that the club «Atmosphere» takes part in the all-Russian movement «Native Forest» for the first time, USUE students already have some experience in planting. Last year, young people planted conifers near the building of Ural State University of Economics in Narodnaya Volya Street.
