In the museum, students learned about daily routine of Sverdlovsk police

The students started their trip to the history of the internal affairs bodies of the region from the Hall of Glory, where, as the curator of the museum’s funds Sergey Ankudinov explained, «the first thing of the museum» — the Red Banner of Internal Affairs is in permanent safekeeping. After that, the students watched a short video about the harsh routine of police services and units.

The narrative about the Heroes of the Soviet Union and of Russia is a special page in the chronicles of Sverdlovsk law enforcers. Excursionists listened with great interest to the stories and circumstances of the death of heroes during the Great Patriotic War and in our days. There are many of them: fighters of Special Task Police Squad (OMON) and Rapid Deployment Task Force (SOBR) have long trips of duty to hot points of the North Caucasus region.

Showcases with samples of uniforms, impressive collections of shoulder straps, communication means of 1950-1980s, unsophisticated first devices of forensic experts ... However, most of all, the attention of students, especially boys, was riveted to the collection of cold weapon and firearms, as well as to material evidence confiscated from criminals. Girls with the same genuine interest asked the guide about the details of lurid criminal cases in Soviet Sverdlovsk, about which Voice of America broadcast through the whole world.

"From all seen, the most memorable were retro-exhibits, especially an engraved with person’s name gilt officer’s dirk, which was awarded to for the help and assistance to police. In general, the tour is designed so that any visitor can discover something new to expand one’s erudition" — shared impressions of freshman Valeria Shirinskaya.

At the end of the tour, first-year students learned how to create an «identikit» picture, how experts determine through fingerprint the age of a criminal, and other wisdom of the police service. After that, the students proceeded to «practice»: each was given the opportunity to assess their accuracy in the simulator shooting gallery with a laser Makarov pistol. The tour to the museum ended with words of gratitude, left by students in the guest book of the museum, and a general photo for memory.

«To know the great past of our fathers and grandfathers is necessary: this is a road to human culture. The knowledge of history helps us to look more at the world, to influence the future of the country. You will decide the fate of Russia and educate new generations — do it with dignity,» Sergei Ankutdinov said at parting.
