Prestigious Science!

The Russian Science Foundation has summed up the results of the 2022 competition “Basic and Exploratory Scientific Research, Conducted by Small Dedicated Teams.” As part of the competition, the Foundation’s expert council selected 2017 projects.

The projects that received grants will be implemented in 2023-24. The competition was held in several branches of knowledge: mathematics, informatics and systems sciences; physics and space sciences; chemistry and materials sciences; biology and life sciences; basic research for medicine; agricultural sciences; Earth sciences; humanities and social sciences; and engineering sciences. In two of them (“chemistry and materials sciences” and “humanities and social sciences”), grants for fundamental scientific research were allocated to two small research teams of USUE.

The first team headed by Maria Bukharinova, Ph.D. in Chemistry. research staff member at the Research and Innovation Center for Sensing Technologies, will develop new electrochemical sensors and methods for highly sensitive determination of synthetic food coloring agents. The project “Electrochemical sensors based on a 3D carbon fiber platform and nanoscale modifiers for the highly sensitive determination of synthetic dyes in foods and pharmaceuticals” arose from the need for the food industry to have simple, effective, sufficiently sensitive and at the same time selective (capable of selective analysis) chemical analysis tools for monitoring the quality of synthetic dyes (Allura Red AC, tartrazine, Ponceau 4R, sunset yellow FCF, brilliant blue). The developments of USUE scientists will further improve the quality and safety of food products for human health.

The small research team also includes Prof. Natalia Stozhko, Ph.D. in Chemistry, head of the Department of Physics and Chemistry, Ekaterina Khamzina, intern researcher at the Research and Innovation Center for Sensing Technologies, and Aleksei Tarasov, junior researcher at the Research and Innovation Center for Sensing Technologies.

The second project, which also received a grant from the Russian Science Foundation in the competition for projects of small dedicated teams, is called “Transformation of business processes of domestic agro-industrial enterprises under economy digitalization.” The research team of the USUE Department of Finance, Monetary Circulation and Credit is headed by Prof. Elina Zakirova, Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor at the Department of Finance, Money Circulation and Credit. The novelty of the study lies in the method's development and substantiation of practical proposals for improving the ecosystem and financing the economic activities of agro-industrial enterprises within national projects “Digital Economy” and “Small and Medium Enterprises and Support for Individual Entrepreneurial Initiatives”.

Other members of the research team are a USUE postgraduate student, Irina Trushina, and a USUE student, Alexandra Nazarova.

We congratulate the research teams and wish them further success!
