The path to success: results of rapid chess competition

August 9, at Ural State University of Economics, the medals for rapid chess of «Ural Chess Festival — 2017» were awarded. During the week, 150 people competed for the title of the best chess player.

The judges summed up the results of the Sverdlovsk Region Cup in rapid chess among girls and boys under 10 and 13 years old, as well as the results of the regional tournament in rapid chess among boys and girls under 19 years old.

International Grandmaster, director of the Ural Chess Academy Naum Rashkovsky noted that the main task of accomplished chess-players is to cultivate successors that in future they could defend the honor of the Sverdlovsk region and Russia. «When we organized the chess academy, we set exactly this task for ourselves. We expect you would show a wonderful playing and good results. For sure, they will be. I can say about myself: when I became the champion of Russia, I was 16 years old, and Anatoly Karpov — 10 years old. He later became the world champion and one of the greatest chess players in history. You have a good example before your eyes. We all once dreamed of becoming great, and those who are working on a daily basis, will succeed,» Nahum Rashkovsky said.

Winners of this stage of the festival were congratulated by the USUE Rector Yakov Silin. He stressed that the University will become the base platform of the Chess Federation of the Sverdlovsk region, «We are open for all levels of competitions, festivals, and tournaments. We want to be a chess house of our region.»

The chief judge Vladimir Komissarov awarded the first prize to the youngest participant — to five-year-old Ivan Zaytsev (Yekaterinburg).
