You have the right to choose!
March 1, USUE students took part in the action "Students support the election of the Russian president" and met with a member of the Election Commission of the Sverdlovsk region. The conversation between young voters and the organizers of the event was devoted to the hot issue "Why should we participate in elections?"
The action "Students support the election of the Russian president" is held in 80 educational institutions of the Sverdlovsk region. USUE responded to the event and became its co-organizer.
The students learned about the work of the Commission and the forthcoming large-scale electoral campaign, which will be held on March 18. Elena Bosenko, a member of the Election Commission of the Sverdlovsk region, told the students about the electoral system in the region, explained the importance of citizens exercising their rights. She also stressed the need to show an active civic position: to come to polling stations and cast votes for the right candidate.
According to Elena Bosenko, it is very important to work with young people in this area. The main goal is to provoke interest among young people aged from 18 to 35 years to participate in elections and in general in electoral rights.
"We meet with young voters to answer their questions. Among others, the most frequent asked are how to receive an absentee certificate, whether pre-schedule voting is possible, what documents are necessary to have for voting, and others," she noted.
The importance of this meeting was noted by the USUE Rector Yakov Silin.
"Each of us must clearly realize: by ensuring voters turnout we strengthen civil unity. Young people still have a lot to choose in their lives, but the election of the head of state is very important. Therefore, we talk with students, convince them, we give arguments, we hear their questions. To participate in elections means to learn to think about the direction which our country should follow and understand its priorities," the rector commented.
