USUE entered the pilot version of local rankings of universities compiled by federal districts

For the first time, the Association of Rating Compilers and the RAEX Rating Agency supported by the Russian Union of Rectors and the information assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia are publishing a pilot version of local ratings of Russian universities. As part of the study, an independent assessment of the activities of regional and highly specialized universities was carried out, based on the implementation of their educational and scientific potential and impact on the social environment. The published ratings separately compiled for each federal district of the country include 327 universities from 79 regions of the Russian Federation.

The idea of local ratings and the main methodological foundations were determined by the Working Group on Strategic Academic Leadership under the Russian Union of Rectors, which includes rectors of leading universities, representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, and Rosobrnadzor. Local ratings continue to develop rating ecosystem - Three University Missions - assessing universities in respect to the balanced implementation of all three main missions of a university: education, research, and interaction with society.

The long list included all universities in the country except educational institutions with specific functions. The list of participants did not include universities with a dominant specialization in culture, art, sports, religion, and those training law enforcement officers. Later, small universities (less than 100 full-time students) and universities offering mostly extramural courses did not enter the shortlist. Besides, national educational leaders were excluded from the list of local rankings - universities that entered the Three University Missions Moscow International University Ranking in 2021 or the RAEX-100 ranking of the best Russian universities.

Ural State University of Economics took 5th place in the Ural Federal District and topped the list in the Sverdlovsk Region. Among the ranks presented, the University took 12th place in education, 6th in research, and 4th in interaction with society.

The leader of the Ural Federal District rating is South Ural State Medical University (Chelyabinsk) followed by Khanty-Mansiysk State Medical Academy and Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University. The 4th place was taken by Chelyabinsk State University.
