USUE is among the best universities in Russia and the world according to the SIR International Ranking
Ural State University of Economics ranks #59 among Russian universities in the SCImago Institutions Rankings and #779 in the world.
Scimago institutions rankings (SIR) have been developed since 2009 by the Spanish company Scimago Lab associated with some Spanish universities. The ranking position is calculated based on the Scopus database of scientific publications and the PATSTAT patent database.
SIR includes 7026 organizations conducting scientific activities and publishing their results indexed in databases. These are governmental research institutions (such as the Russian Academy of Sciences), medical companies, and non-profit organizations. Among educational organizations, there are 3897 institutes, including universities and medical schools. 87 Russian universities have entered SIR ranking: from Moscow State University (in position #376) to the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (in position #879). The main criterion for a university to be included in the ranking is at least 100 publications per year, indexed in the Scopus database.
In general, three main groups of indicators are used: research performance - 50%, innovation outputs (patents) - 30%, and societal impact - 20%.
The research ranking refers to the scope, impact, and quality of an institution's research performance. The innovation ranking is calculated based on the number of patent applications an institution has and the citations that its research outputs receive from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
USUE is included in the 75th world percentile according to the overall ranking, also having high positions in indicators. The highest position of the University in the research ranking is the 53rd percentile (#407 in the world), and in Russia, it is the 15th percentile.
SIR ranking also measures the involvement of universities in various areas of knowledge. USUE got into five subject areas obtaining a high position in economic, managerial, and social sciences.
