IN DIPLOMACY EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS

USUE students have joined the Russian Foreign Ministry project “Council of Young Diplomats.” Lectures to students will be delivered by diplomats.

The first meeting took place via video conferencing. Students from USUE and UrFU communicated with representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an informal setting and got acquainted with the ministry’s large-scale project “Council of Young Diplomats”.

“Diplomacy is an important tool in the foreign policy activities of all countries. The public lectures project will help increase students’ interest in learning the basics of international relations and foreign languages. It’s gratifying that the guys accepted our proposal with enthusiasm,” Oksana Bazhenova, head of the USUE International Cooperation Office, noted.

The head of the Mentors Club, Liliya Romadan, greeted the Ural students: “We have a separate track for students of regional universities who study international relations. We hold online meetings of young people with officials of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, talk about the basics of building diplomatic relations, because in diplomacy every little bit counts.”

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Yekaterinburg, Alexander Ivanov. He told the students about the features of international and foreign economic relations in the Ural Federal District.

Students wished to know which foreign languages are now the most promising for learning, how Russian diplomats interact with representatives of unfriendly countries, and what Protocol Services do during negotiations between international delegations.

“I study the world economics and foreign economic activity. During the meeting, I heard a comprehensive argument that I need to learn Spanish. The only thing I should do now is to persuade the entire group! I also received useful information that will help me in preparing my first scientific publication on relations between Latin America and Russia,” Stepan Bedrin, a first-year student at the USUE Institute of Economics and Finance, shared his impressions.

In the near future, representatives of the Council of Young Diplomats will make up a list of topics based on the wishes of USUE students. Russian Foreign Ministry diplomats will conduct lectures online.
