On the second day of the Eurasian Economic Youth Forum, Ural journalists had the opportunity to ask questions to USUE Rector Yakov Silin and EEYF guests: Alexander Linnikov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Oleg Ivanov, Vice-Rector for Research at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Adu Yao Nikaz, the President of the Association of Foreign Students of Russia.
The journalists were interested in issues related to higher education and intra-university life, and of course, the youth forum.
Answering the question of how EEYF helps get a foot in the door and gives young people an opportunity to break into the scientific and professional community, Yakov Silin, in particular, said: “The forum provides an opportunity to apply and participate in competitions in various areas, and this year there are 42 of them! It is a chance to prove yourself, demonstrate your capabilities, and get yourself noticed. If this is a Congress of Schoolchildren, this is an opportunity to receive an invitation to enter one of the universities or to present the results obtained to the university that a student has chosen to enter. Those who study for a bachelor’s degree can choose a university and a master's degree program according to their interests. Young people do choose this way in the world themselves."
Questions to the President of the Association of Foreign Students of Russia Adu Yao Nikaz concerned some issues arising in the process of learning and adaptation of foreign students in Russia and the role of the Association of Foreign Students.
Adu Yao Nikaz said that those issues were divided into social and educational ones. “You should understand that the students are very young. They leave for another country with a completely different history, culture, and traditions, being only 16-18 years old. It is always hard, even for adults. Therefore, in this process, they need help both from the Association and from the university. Universities are actively involved in these issues. While learning, students face language difficulties, however, universities have a lot of experience in this area, and all problems are being overcome," he explained.
The journalists asked about innovative and research activities, the development of high technologies, the need for highly skilled specialists, and the priorities of universities in these areas.
