In the Sverdlovsk region, the first step was taken to establish an infrastructure to increase the financial literacy of the inhabitants of the Middle Urals. A corresponding agreement was signed between the government of Sverdlovsk Oblast and Ural State University of Economics. Within the framework of the agreement, a regional center for financial literacy is being established.
It is planned that this center will organize educational events and consultations, will disseminate information and educational materials, will provide methodical assistance to teachers of educational institutions, will hold information and educational campaigns, thematic seminars, conferences, and much more.
As Galina Kulachenko, the vice-governor and Finance Minister of the Sverdlovsk region explained, the cooperation agreement on establishment of a regional center for financial literacy was signed as part of a strategy to increase financial literacy in the Russian Federation for 2017 - 2023 years and recommended by the Ministry of Finance of Russia. The work of the center will become a platform for the implementation of the regional comprehensive program "Improvement of Financial Literacy Level of Sverdlovsk Region Population in 2018-2023", which is being finalized by the regional Finance Ministry.
"The need for such work is obvious. We understand how many new financial instruments are on the market today and consumers do not always properly use them. The main task is to teach the majority to work with such instruments. It is important for us to increase the efficiency of protecting the interests of the residents of the Middle Urals as consumers of financial services," Galina Kulachenko said.
We would like to recall that today the country has developed a national strategy of increasing financial literacy. Among its areas are HR-capacity building, educational programs, provision of information to the public, and protecting the rights of financial services consumers. The Sverdlovsk region actively joined in this work.
