European HR expert at USUE

How to build an employer-employee relationship to make them as efficient as possible? This topic was discussed at the public lecture "Labor Relations between Employers and Employees: New Forms, Multiplicity of Contractual Relations, Changes in a Psychological Contract".

Mauro Gatti, professor at Sapienza University of Rome and an expert in the field of HR management, addressed USUE students and teachers.   The visit was organized by the Office for USUE Human Resources in conjunction with the USUE Department of Labor Economics and HR Management and the Association of HR Managers and Specialists.

During the lecture, the expert presented approaches and tools for managing the behavior of employees based on a "psychological contract". He told how relations in an organization affect the behavior its employees, their motivation, productivity, and loyalty.

According to the professor, due to the change in the traditional contract between an employee and an employer towards a more flexible agreement, it became necessary to introduce the concept of a "psychological contract", which is usually not put on paper.

"We cannot write on paper that a company should provide training and career opportunities to a new employee. This is something that goes beyond the scope of labor relations. The working environment is now not only a technical and economic dimension but also a psychological one. Behavior and emotional component in the work of employees are also important," the lecturer says.

If in the past, employees, having shown zeal and loyalty to the organization, received in return job stability and opportunity for professional growth, now such relations have become insufficient or inefficient in the employee-employer relationship. "A company expects that each person will contribute to the tasks accomplished. At the same time, a company expects loyalty from employees," he noted.

Mauro Gatti called this "enhanced role behavior." The concept implies that employees within a company should interact, share knowledge, and help each other. Only then, a team working will be efficient.
