XII International Scientific and Practical Conference Methods and Technology of Food Production

April 19, at 12th international scientific and practical conference "Methods and Technology of Food Production" (section "Ecology and safety of technological processes") held at Mogilev State University of Food Technologies (Republic of Belarus), Rosa Timakova,  Ph.D., USUE associate professor  delivered a report "Radiation Technologies - New Opportunities for Ensuring Food Security".

The widespread use of radiation technologies in industry and agriculture for the processing of food resources at the present stage determines the need for radiation safety as the main criterion for assessing food security. People should be sure that eating irradiated food will not harm their health. Different methods are used to identify radiation-processed foods abroad. In Russia, there are standards for the application of EPR methods, similar to foreign ones.
The results of experimental studies allowing identification of meat raw materials irradiated with different doses by the EPR method were presented using an EPR spectrometer Labrador Expert X-band (manufactured in Russia). The topic aroused increased interest of the faculty and students.
April 20, within the framework of the jubilee events (Mogilev State University of Food Technologies celebrates its 45 years), the delegation of guests from Poland, Bulgaria, Moscow, and Yekaterinburg headed by vice-rector for research Alexander Akulich visited the Bykhov vegetable canning and dehydration plant, where they became acquainted with modern technology of fruits and vegetables processing produced under the brands "Master-Barin" and "Frau Marta" and could evaluate the quality of juices produced.
The use of the HACCP system at the enterprise ensures the safety of the products, including through the radiological control of incoming raw materials by the gamma radiometer RKT-AT 1320 (made in the Republic of Belarus), which is especially important for the Republic of Belarus.
Rosa Timakova got acquainted with the organization of the educational process of the Technological Faculty, with the sports complex during the volleyball competitions among university teams, with the museum's exposition, and the proprietary project “Virtual Laboratory ‘Technological Equipment of Food Production’" based on 3D modeling technologies for interactive training of students.
The events were held under the guidance of the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs Yuliya Nazarova, chair of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Alexander Moiseenko, and Professor Alexander Ivanov, Department of Food Engineering Machines and Devices.
