Julia Panteleeva brought the «bronze» from the European Championships in climbing

Early October, the European Championships in climbing ended in Perm. For three days, the athletes showed their skills in lead and speed. Julia Panteleeva, a USUE student, participated in two disciplines and won third place.

It should be noted that the European Championships was held in Russia for the first time. «It is strange to feel almost at home and at the same time at international competitions, none the less the homely atmosphere and support of viewers are felt,» Julia says.

It is worth noting that on September 9, at the World Championship in sport climbing, youth and junior groups competed for medals in multidiscipline event. Julia managed to take second place. «After these competitions, I had a one-week break. The biggest problem was that I had no place in Yekaterinburg to train as there was only the gym for bouldering and it was necessary to train speed and lead. Because of this, I was a little trained-off,» the athlete says.

Qualification for the lead in the European Championships took one day. According to the climber, the routes were clear and not very difficult. «But I could not pass them, there was not enough endurance, and I got to the semi-finals with fifth result. There has developed a standard situation: a simple route with a „crux“ at the end: one, who makes a move and holds the edge, is qualified for the finals,» Julia explains. The girl showed the same result with the Italian athlete and took the ninth place.

As for the speed, it was more difficult: «Usually, the maximum speed is kept only 5 days from the last training. For me, it was a month. I did understand that to get on the podium in the all-around, I should beat all the girls», Yulia says. At the second qualification, the athlete got to the final in speed and according to the sum of three disciplines she took the third place in the multidiscipline competition.

In 2017, sport climbing will turn 70 years old. On August 3, 2016, it was included in the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, and on December 6 — in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
