October 27, USUE Rector Yakov Silin and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Roman Krasnov met with students to answer their questions and help solve problems.
«What are you interested in, what are your questions, suggestions, or wishes? Let us talk and figure out how to solve the problem,» Yakov Silin offered. First- to fourth-year students are concerned with the payment for tuition, quality of life in the dormitories, meals in the student café, and the possibility of parking near the University.
Student Alexandr was anxious about the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to vacate dormitories for the guests of the World Cup, which will be held in Yekaterinburg in 2018. «How can the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation kick out students from their rooms? These are proposals for universities that can provide their dormitories, if there is accommodation available. If we get such a letter, we will consider it based on our possibilities,» the USUE Rector said.
A fresher Daria is interested in discounts on training, «Tuition-paying students with good academic performance used to have discounts. Is it possible to resume this practice?» Yakov Silin answered in the negative, «The University provides the opportunity to earn money without going outside the institution. When you give a discount, it means you give up something. You pay for your knowledge. When you say „give me a discount,“ you should understand that the teacher would receive less than he is due, and you will not receive knowledge. A year ago, we offered to increase the scholarship for achievements in five areas: study, scientific work, social activities, sports, and creativity. Earn money from knowledge, today it is expensive.»
Stepan asked about parking options near the University. Unfortunately, the University has a small area, and it is impossible to equip parking spaces for students. «There is a huge parking nearby Greenwich, is it possible agree with them?» the student suggested. The Rector has promised to help solve this problem, «But we must understand that this is business and no one will do anything for nothing. And if we permit you to leave your cars at the parking for employees and teachers, there will be conflicts.»
Kamil asked to consider the possibility of improving lighting on the sports ground near the dormitories.
Please note that students can communicate with the University top management and ask all their questions. All wishes and suggestions are always taken into account.
