Ural political scientists discussed the prospects for the election campaigns of presidential candidates

The next meeting of the Expert Club of the Sverdlovsk Region was held in Yekaterinburg. It was attended by representatives of the Public Chamber of the region, the Public Observation Center (PSC), as well as students of the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin and the Ural Institute of Management RANEPA. The activities of registered presidential candidates and the prospects for the election campaign were discussed at the meeting (Online publication “Uralsky-rabochiy.rf”, 02/13/2024).

At the end of last week, the first stage of the election campaign ended. The names of candidates registered to participate in the country's main elections have become known. There will be four of them on the ballot - the current head of state, self-nominated Vladimir Putin, LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky, Communist Party member Nikolai Kharitonov and member of the New People party Vladislav Davankov.

The head of the Expert Club, expert of the Public Chamber of the Sverdlovsk Region, professor of the Department of Political Sciences of UrFU Anatoly Gagarin agrees with the data of VTsIOM and believes that more than 75% of Russians are going to come to the elections of the President of the country. “Sociology shows that opportunities for a leap forward exist for all registered candidates , but who will succeed, opinions differ here, and we will carefully watch how the candidates will be able to attract voters to their side,” believes Anatoly Gagarin.

The discussion among experts revolved around how many votes the representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Liberal Democratic Party and the New People party will be able to receive.

According to Andrei Rusakov, an expert at the Center for Public Observation of the Sverdlovsk Region, political scientist, and director of the Center for European-Asian Studies, some candidates plan to use the election topic for personal PR.

PSC expert and director of the Analyst center Andrei Mozolin also expressed his opinion on the development of the election race. According to him, the candidates represent recognizable parliamentary parties that have their own electorate. Most likely, voters will make their choice based on party preferences.

Let us remind you that the Sverdlovsk region is among the 29 regions of Russia where voters will be able to vote using the Remote Electronic Voting (DEG) platform. “The Sverdlovsk Region is in the top five in terms of the number of people registered in the DEG. This form of voting is becoming increasingly popular. In September 2023, in the elections of local government bodies and by-elections to the Legislative Assembly of the region, 25% of voters in Yekaterinburg alone voted using DEG,” said PSC expert, director of the Institute of Digital Management Technologies and Information Security of USUE Alexander Kokovikhin.
