Ural State University of Economics celebrates its 50th anniversary. This is reported by the information and analytical department of the city administration.

The order of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of RSFSR «On the opening Sverdlovsk Institute of National Economy on October 10, 1967 » was issued on September 2 and was executed just in time.

The new institute was established on the basis of the economic faculty of the Ural State University and the branch of the Moscow Institute of National Economy.

In fact, by then that university had already existed: the Moscow branch of the institute was located in one of the UrSU buildings — the former building of the Yekaterinburg religious school, which was built in 1858 on the corner of the Monastyrskaya Street (now Narodnaya Volya) and Uktusskay Street (now 8 Marta).

At that time, the institute had two faculties (full-time courses with evening school and extramural faculty), six departments, 2 399 students and 232 lecturers, including three professors, 53 associate professors, and nine candidates of science (Ph.D.). During its existence, the University has trained over 70,000 specialists for various sectors of the national economy, including representatives of business elite and public authorities.

Today USUE is a specialized multi-economic university, which trains about 15 thousand students, and their number is constantly growing. USUE employs more than 400 faculty members, among them 57 doctors of sciences and over 100 candidates of sciences (Ph.D.), primarily in the sphere of economics and finance, two Corresponding Members of Russian Academy of Sciences, six Honored Scientists of Russia, and 11 full members of a number of public academies. Among the USUE faculty members, dozens of teachers are holders of patents and registered programs, and two professors are the authors of discoveries.

The University trains professionals in the following areas: «Information Systems Software and Administration», «Informatics and Computer Engineering», «Applied Informatics», «Information Security», «Technology of Production and Organization of Public Catering», «Land Management and Cadastre», «Quality Management», «Economics», «Management», «Personnel Management», «State and Municipal Management», «Business Informatics», «Trading Business», «Commodity Studies», «Jurisprudence», «Service», «Tourism» and «Hotel Business».
