Museum of USUE History

The SINH History Museum was established in 1988 on the basis of the Military and Labor Glory Hall of the University by the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute. By the same decision the first head of the museum was appointed. It was . Nikolai Shlyapnikov, an associate professor at the Department of CPSU History. The opening of the museum was timed to the 25th anniversary of the University, which took place in 1992. In 1996, after the retirement of the first head of the museum, his work was continued by the outstanding teacher and researcher Tamara Blank, who led the museum until 2010.

The merits of the first museum’s managers include not only the creation of its exposition, systematic search for information and collecting of artifacts but also active participation in the social and scientific life of the Institute-University: scientific and practical conferences, issuing of a literary almanac, regular meetings of WWII veterans, and foundation of the student's creative center. The museum actively interacted with the Council of Veterans, USUE Alumni Association, student teams, and the search group "Honor and Memory".

In 2009-2010, the former exposition was dismantled in connection with the allocation of new premises for the museum in the old historical building of the University. The new exposition was opened there on September 1, 2013. Since then, traditionally at the beginning of each academic year first-year students have guided tours over the museum where they become acquainted with the main milestones of the University history, starting from the early years of USUE and ending with the present.

The exposition is a good means of teaching students their own history. However, the museum is not a "frozen" exhibition space. Here, temporary exhibitions are regularly arranged by the hands and ideas of the students-members of the USUE Creative Center of Museum Technologies.

Thus, today the Museum of USUE History also performs educational function: there are several student associations at the museum, among which the most significant is the USUE search group "Honor and Memory", whose goal is to search for the remains of missing Soviet soldiers and officers fallen during the Great Patriotic War and to perpetuate their names.
