The Ural branch of the Free Economic Society of Russia has won the contest of regional organizations and branches of the VEO of Russia. Its results were summed up in the framework of the 5th jubilee All-Russian Economic Meeting dedicated to the 255th anniversary of the Free Economic Society of Russia and Economist’s Day.
The event was held in real-time in a combined offline and online format. It was attended by representatives of the economic community, Russian economic science, the real sector of the national economy, state and public figures, representatives of Russian regions, and foreign guests.
The contest of regional organizations and branches of the VEO of Russia is aimed at studying, generalizing, and extension of their experience to promote the efficient socio-economic development of regions, to develop educational activities, to update and popularize the cultural heritage of the Imperial VEO and the activities of the VEO of Russia, and to improve economic literacy of people.
According to the results of the contest, the 3rd place went to the Kurgan and Kostroma regional branches of the VEO of Russia; the 2nd place was taken by the Rostov branch and the Kalmyk regional organization. The victory was shared between the Ural branch and the St. Petersburg regional public organization of the VEO of Russia.
It should be noted that the Ural branch of the VEO of Russia was already the winner of this competition in 2018. The panel of judges especially noted the level of organization of All-Russian Economic Dictation in the Sverdlovsk region, traditionally hosted by Ural State University of Economics. The online dictation has significantly increased the total number of its participants and expanded the geography of the event.
Besides, the meeting summed up the nominations for the Economist of the Year award. In total, there were 123 nominees from various regions of Russia.
