The COVID-19 pandemic has made changes in the organization of the educational process at the USUE institutes and College. Measures to ensure sanitary and epidemiological well-being in connection with the spread of new coronavirus infection in student groups are taken following the directives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the methodological recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor. 

On 16 December 2020 Quacquarelli Symonds (Great Britain) published QS Emerging Europe And Central Asia University Rankings 2021. In this rating USUE ranks 301-350 while securing its place among the TOP-100 Russian universities

December 26, Ural State University of Economics hosted a solemn graduation ceremony of the Institute of Masters Courses 2020 (an intra-extramural form of study) in the areas of Economics, Finance and Credit, State and Municipal Administration, and Management. 

December 24, Ural State University of Economics held a meeting of the Academic Council, which reviewed the results of the educational process organization and methodological activities of the University for 2020. The speakers at the meeting were Dmitry Karkh, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Teaching Methods and Quality of Training, Elena Dvoryadkina, Vice-Rector for Research, and Vladimir Kuligin, Vice-Rector for Property Management.

The Ministry of Education and Youth Policy of the Sverdlovsk Region, together with Ural State University of Economics, held the first regional conference, "Formation of Healthy Eating Culture in Educational Organizations of the Sverdlovsk Region."
