Basketball fest in Yekaterinburg
May 5-6, Ural State Economic University hosted a traditional regional basketball tournament among women's teams in memory of an honored coach of Russia Valentin Kirillovich Firsov, the grandfather" of Sverdlovsk basketball, a participant in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45.
The home ground helped the USUE team to do well participating in the tournament for the fifth time and taking second place for the first time.
In the main final game, it lost to UMMC-Junior with a score of 49-69, which is hardly surprising, taking into account that the basketball players of that club play in the Superleague-1 of the Russian Championship.
Third place went to Sima-Land team assembled under the auspices of Ural Federal University. In their final, the students beat UMMC-DUBL with a score of 73-55.
The winners of the tournament were awarded the Victory Cup, medals from the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Sverdlovsk region, and traditional prizes from the UMMC basketball club.
To memorize the festive event in basketball of the Sverdlovsk region - V.K. Firsov’s 110th birthday anniversary - the winners were presented with commemorative wall calendars describing the life of the legendary man.
