More than a game!

The Ural State Economic University, together with the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development, opened a specialized training ground for e-sports. This is the first site at a university in the Sverdlovsk region that will operate all year round.

The opening ceremony was attended by USUE Rector Yakov Silin, UBRD President Alexey Dolgov, and Deputy Head of Yekaterinburg Dmitry Nozhenko.

“Modern technologies are in great demand among young people today. Our university trains specialists in dozens of different areas. But in each of them, students can increase their relevance through IT skills. Our e-sports training ground will also help improve them in practice,” said USUE Rector Yakov Silin.

The eSports training ground is located in the main building of the university.

“The popularity of eSports tournaments among young people is growing. UBRD strives to be in line with innovative trends, and therefore we supported the idea of our partner, the main economic university in the Urals,” said UBRD President Alexey Dolgov.

The room has 10 seats for players and 2 seats for referees. The technical equipment meets the federal standard. Gaming computers meet the latest performance and speed requirements. For the convenience of spectators, the broadcast of the competition is displayed on separate televisions. Each player's seat is equipped with a chair adapted for e-sports. Competitions at the regional and federal levels will be held at the cyber training ground at USUE.

“An auditorium equipped with the most modern computers is an excellent gift for the Ural youth in the year of the 300th anniversary of Yekaterinburg. Cooperation between the Ural State Economic University and the largest regional bank is a striking example of the symbiosis of science and business,” said Deputy Head of Yekaterinburg Dmitry Nozhenko.

As part of the opening, the first competitions took place. Students took part in the eSports tournament for the USUE Cup. 8 teams fought in the Counter-Strike 2 discipline.

“I started playing in CS at the age of 10 under the strict guidance of my father. Having entered the university, the guys and I created a team: we train together, improve our skills, and participate in tournaments. It’s great that my home university now has a specially equipped classroom. This is just heaven and earth when compared to a home computer. Comfortable keyboard, curved screen: it’s a pleasure to play!” — student of the Institute of Digital Management Technologies and Information Security of USUE Dmitry Golynsky shared his impressions.

The opening of the cyber training ground and the eSports tournament for the USUE Cup became the final events of the “Information Technology Week at USUE”.
