Big Ethnographic Dictation

Today, Ural State University of Economics was writing Big Ethnographic Dictation. This action has been held since 2016 on the eve of National Unity Day. The educational project is aimed at strengthening mutual respect and harmony among the peoples of Russia.

In the Sverdlovsk region, USUE became the central venue, where over 130 persons wrote the dictation. Before the dictation started, the university hosted an awards ceremony for the winners of the Ural People’s Team festival, a photo contest dedicated to the cultural and historical heritage of Urals peoples.

USUE Rector Yakov Silin noted that the Sverdlovsk region is the small motherland for representatives of 160 nationalities: “Projects like Big Ethnographic Dictation strengthen our unity, help young people of different peoples of the whole of Russia learn about each other. Our greatest asset is the richest multinational culture.

Anton Tretyakov, director of the Internal Policy Department of the Sverdlovsk region, welcomed the participants: “Russia has accepted and is accepting a variety of peoples into its enormous family, each with its own language, culture, and religion. None of these peoples has disappeared, but, on the contrary, has received and is receiving all the opportunities to develop its identity.”

Big Ethnographic Dictation is conducted by the Federal Agency for Nationalities. The results will be summed up by December.
