Dialogue on Equal Terms: Building the Future Together

As part of the 16th Eurasian Economic Youth Forum, Ural State University of Economics hosted a "Dialogue on Equal Terms" – a meeting of foreign ambassadors and consuls with young people.

The meeting's theme was "Russia—a Space of Trust: Building the Future Together." Opening the event, Yakov Silin, acting rector of Ural State University of Economics, emphasized that the university had been striving to foster a spirit of cooperation and partnership for 16 years.

"Today, I propose we discuss what lies at the heart of any successful society, any strong country. What allows us not only to survive but also to develop, overcome difficulties, and achieve great goals. I'm talking about trust! Russia is a dynamic, multinational, living system, with over a thousand years of history, in which millions of people, united by shared values, strive for the best. And the key to this future, to the strength of our home, is trust. But what is trust in the Russian context? It's belief in the fairness of the laws protecting us. It's confidence that our rights and freedoms will be respected. It's an understanding that the government cares for its citizens, and citizens, in turn, are ready to contribute to the common good and defend the interests of their country."

Plenipotentiary ambassadors of foreign states, advisers, envoys, officers of embassies and consulates in the Russian Federation, as well as representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the USUE House of Culture as speakers and guests of honor.

Alexander Kharlov, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesman in Yekaterinburg, noted that this was not his first time participating in the forum and emphasized that it is always a great honor for him. "Our event is held under the motto 'Dialogue on Equal Terms.' This means no dominance, but equality and respect for the interlocutor," Kharlov emphasized.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Panama, Ms. Carmen Inés Avila Ortega, welcomed the meeting participants: "Panama is honored to participate in the 16th Eurasian Economic Forum, organized by Ural State University of Economics. It's wonderful that we and students, government officials, forum participants, and business representatives can exchange ideas here. The future belongs to young people, and we should build a foundation that will further develop them and foster dialogue and harmony. International cooperation is crucial for further development, as it is how we set plans for the future."

The students actively engaged in dialogue with the diplomats. They were interested in questions related to education in Russia and the opportunities offered by the Russian educational system. For example, a student from Angola studying at an Arkhangelsk university asked the diplomats about the embassy's programs to support young entrepreneurs, as well as the embassy's collaboration with Russian universities in addressing pressing issues facing international students.

Russia is firmly among the top ten countries in the world in terms of the number of international students, ranking sixth. Currently, USUE alone enrolls nearly 4,000 international students from 69 countries, and the USUE Preparatory Faculty for Foreign Citizens is one of the largest in Russia. This year, it is training approximately 800 international students.

During the meeting, bilateral agreements were officially signed between USUE and the National Scientific Center for Education Development "SANAT" (Astana, Kazakhstan). The document was signed by USUE acting rector Yakov Silin and the Center's director Berik Elmagambetov. This is further evidence that the number of countries willing to cooperate with Russia is growing every year.

The 16th EEYF is held in Yekaterinburg from April 21 to 24, 2026, under the auspices of Ural State University of Economics. This year, over 24,000 people from 117 countries are participating in it, including Russian and international students, diplomats, rectors of leading Russian and foreign universities, and renowned economic experts.
