Cities of Russia 2030: Crossroads of Opportunities

November 16, professors and members of the USUE Council of Young Scientists took part as moderators and participants in the sections of All-Russian Forum of Strategic Development "Cities of Russia 2030: Crossroads of Opportunities".

The chair of the USUE Council of Young Scientists, Associate Professor at the Department of Regional and Municipal Economics and Management Olga Ergunova organized the section "Youth’s View and Participation in the Development of City's Strategy." At the section, they awarded the winners of international competition of projects of students, postgraduates and young scientists in the field of urban development and improving the city environment and quality of life.

The work of the section was attended by the chair of the Department of Business Informatics Dmitry Nazarov, members of Young Scientists Council Galina Bannykh Alisa Titovetc, Ekaterina Kaybicheva, Victor Blaginin, and Arina Suvorova.

Professor at the Department of Public and Municipal Administration of Ural State University of Economics, Natalia Vlasova, moderated the section "Formation of Creative Economy And Creative Spaces in a City: Opportunities for Public-State Partnership."

The chair of the Department of Public and Municipal Administration Yevgeny Animitsa and Associate Professor Ivan Antipin participated as experts in the finals of Urban Strategies Competition.

The forum participants discussed the current trends in the development of smart cities as centers of intellectual development, using the potential of universities as centers for the production of knowledge and training of smart people, and the opportunities for Russian cities to include smart urban development into world processes.

World practices show that the creation of joint initiatives allows the formation of a creative and competitive urban space, which strengthens the position of a university and a city in the world economy. Universities contribute to the creation of new knowledge-intensive spaces; universities contribute to improving the quality of urban management, and closer work with local authorities allows to improve the system of urban planning; universities can contribute to the intangible development of the city, increasing the attractiveness of the city and the formation of its branding by involving in strategic urban projects.

The All-Russian Forum of Strategic Development is a platform for the formation of an urgent agenda for the development of Russian cities and approaches to launching effective multi-scale projects for their development, developing a common vision of the vector of urban development for all participants in the process: representatives of government, business, public organizations, science, and mass media.
