Digital knight move

An online chess tournament was held between students of Ural State University of Economics and Azerbaijan State University of Economics.

USUE Rector Yakov Silin opened the chess competition: “The cooperation between Ural State University of Economics and Azerbaijan State University of Economics has lasted for many years. In April 2022, ASUE became one of the venues for the XII Eurasian Economic Youth Forum. Young scientists and students of Azerbaijani universities took part in the competitions of the XII EEYF. We look forward to continued fruitful cooperation.”

Director of the ASUE Research Institute of Economic Research, Yadulla Hasanli, aligned with USUE Rector: “As the 17th century French mathematician Blaise Pascal stated, chess is gymnastics for the brain! Therefore, I thank USUE for the joint organization of the online mental sport tournament. Dear participants, I would like to note that in 2019, Ural State University of Economics opened a specialized department of chess art and computer mathematics. It implements special educational programs under the guidance of the world chess champion, grandmaster, academic advisor in the chess training area of the Department, Anatoly Karpov. Therefore, the competition promises to be serious!

Ten students: Yevgeny Malyshev, Matvei Prytkov, Anna Kromskaya, Andrei Andreev, Aleksandr Solovyov, Sergei Zhuravlev, Daniil Davydov, Danil Plesovskikh, Aleksei Usoltsev, and Nicole Montero represented our university. All have athletic titles.

 “USUE chess players regularly take part in competitions at the city, regional and national levels,” Grigory Gusarov, coach of the USUE chess team, said. “We also plan to compete in mind sports at the International Student Games, which will be attended by over 5,000 athletes in 18 sports.”

The students played two games with the same opponent playing white and black pieces. Each participant was given ten minutes per game.

 

The team of Azerbaijan State University of Economics has won. It scored 14.5 points. The chess players of Ural State University of Economics intend to take revenge!
