According to a global study (Aon plc), 91% of working people experience severe stress during work, and 35% are ready to quit at any moment. This was reported by psychologist Tatyana Burtseva, director of the employee support program Dobroservis, at the XVI international research-to-practice conference “Decent Work as the Basis of a Stable Society”. The conference takes place at Ural State University of Economics from November 13 to 16.

“New reality is: business manages tired people,” Tatyana Burtseva began her report with these words. “In companies, one employee performs referral tasks for three. At a minimum, he should work for one and a half person, and this, unfortunately, is becoming the norm. Because of the personnel shortage, such a workload of tasks did not exist before.”
Multitasking at work forces people to choose between sacrificing their psychological well-being to stay at their workplace or maintaining their health. Several factors influence a person’s performance, including the personality of a manager, his management style, and the employee’s understanding of the tasks. Recognition within the team and monetary reward for the work done have become important factors now. According to a study by Russia’s largest recruiting service conducted at the end of September 2024, Russians began to place priority on their mental health.

Among the most common reasons why Russian citizens quit their jobs, stress and tension are in the lead. People leave their jobs not only because of low wages, but also because of an internal feeling that they can no longer cope with the workload. Many are ready to stay at work even with a lower income, if they are provided with comfortable working conditions.
“We are not talking about up-to-date equipment and comfortable furniture at workplaces. People are of the opinion: ‘I am ready to receive less income, but I need conditions that will preserve my physical and psychological health. I do not want my life to be reduced to work. Today, it is important for me to develop myself and devote time to my family.’ After the pandemic period, the value of health has increased significantly, and now maintaining both physical and psycho-emotional health dominates,” Tatyana Burtseva concludes.

The speaker is sure that to solve the above problems, several tasks should be accomplished. An employer should show actual concern for employees. This includes adequate wages, the proper management style, support programs, and consultations with psychologists and lawyers.
In recent years, the well-being of personnel has become one of the most important issues for HR specialists. This problem arose because of the personnel shortage in the country. As Tatyana Burtseva noted, in the long term up to 2030, they expect a shortage of at least 4 million workers in Russia.
Approximately 150 speakers, including government officials, HR representatives from scientific, educational, business and professional communities, and more than a thousand participants attend the XVI international research-to-practice conference.

“16 years ago, when the idea of holding such an international conference started up, we relied, among other things, on the principles of the International Labor Organization and on the main conventions devoted, among other things, to matters of decent work. But it is important to note that today the issue of decent work is entering a new stage of development, because, on the one hand, our task is to increase labor productivity and staff performance and, on the other hand, we cannot do this without people, without decent working conditions and an appropriate level of wages. Therefore, this is a fairly comprehensive approach and concept, which, in my opinion, meets today’s realities,” Svetlana Dolzhenko, head of the USUE Department of Labor Economics and HR Management, says.
The co-organizers of the conference, together with USUE, were the Ministry of Economy and Territorial Development of the Sverdlovsk region, Association of HR Managers and Specialists of the Sverdlovsk region, Sverdlovsk Regional Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and Federation of Trade Unions of the Sverdlovsk region.
