The second stage of the International Olympiad “Economy through the prism of the English language” has ended at USUE. The project was created by the USUE Department of Business Foreign Language and is aimed at improving the level of students’ training in the changing international environment.

About a hundred fourth-year students from Ural State University of Economics and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University of the Republic of Kazakhstan. As part of the first stage, which took place this October, they took the Business English Certificate (BEC) test, an individual exam from the University of Cambridge designed to certify business English skills. At the second stage, students developed and defended group social projects in English.

The range of works presented turned out to be wide: legal advice, financial awareness improving, animal protection, help to vulnerable communities — women, migrants, HIV-infected people, and the elderly. Teachers of the Department of Business English assessed the communication skills of students, the development of presentations and handouts, as well as an actual common good of the projects.

The second stage of the Olympiad ended with the joint eating of an apple pie, which several students had made to introduce their apple festival project, aimed at supporting animals affected by human cruelty.
