Astonishing scale
Today, the Yekaterinburg-EXPO center hosted the festival of cultures “Around the World.” At least 5 thousand guests attended one of the most ambitious events of the XIV Eurasian Economic Youth Forum.
The diversity of cultures at the festival is amazing. The Belarusians, Hindus, Georgians, Poles, Kyrgyz, Germans - representatives of 19 nationalities living in the Urals - presented their national dances, costumes, cuisines, jewelry, paintings, and books. The Hindus, for example, treated the guests with marshmallows, the Belarusians and Dagestanis invited festival guests to try on national headdresses, and the Kyrgyz invited them to join the folk dance Kara Jorgo.
Everyone found something interesting to do at the festival: some took photos with representatives of different cultures, some joined the dancers, for others the most interesting things at the festival were household items from different nations.
Many of the festival participants note that “Around the World” becomes larger every year.
“We have been participating for several years now. Our long-standing friendship with the USUE rector Yakov Petrovich Silin allows us to establish relations between our diasporas. Therefore, we are always happy to take part in the festival. Every year, the scale of the event grows, and it becomes dynamic. And, of course, the number of participants also increases, including foreign ones,” Leo (Niko) Kobaidze, Chair of the Rustaveli Society of Georgian Culture, said.
The Urals are one of the most multinational regions of Russia: about 160 peoples peacefully coexist here. Each has its own special history and rich culture.
“We live in a multinational and multicultural country. Each nationality, representing its own features, its national traditions and language, and aggrandizes the might of our state. This is our second year of participating in the EEYF. And I would like to say that the Forum and the festival of cultures ‘Around the World’ are a great opportunity to unite different cultures and exchange experiences,” Irina Lutsenko, a representative of the Polish society “Polyaros,” noted.
The “Around the World” festival is held as part of the Eurasian Economic Youth Forum. The theme of the XIV EEYF is “Russia-Eurasia-the World. Integration-Development-Perspective”. From April 22 to April 26, 2024, there will be 50 competitions, 6 congresses, and public lectures by ambassadors held for schoolchildren, students and young scientists. Research papers and projects will be defended by 10,287 participants; they will be assessed by 797 experts. 17,098 people will take part in the forum, and this is an absolute record for the entire period of the Eurasian Economic Youth Forum.
