We do remember!
September 3, the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism, a mourning rally was held in memory of the victims of terrorist attacks and those who died in the fight against terrorism. About 40 College students of Ural State University of Economics took part in the action.
September 1, 2004, was one of the most terrible days in the history of modern Russia. At the celebratory assembly in honor of the beginning of a new academic year at school No. 1 in Beslan (North Ossetia), terrorists captured over a thousand people, most of them women and children. They were herded into the school’s gymnasium, which was stuffed with bombs. The hostages didn’t even have water. The rescue operation ended on September 3, killing over three hundred people, almost half of whom were children. Since 2005, September 3 in Russia is the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism.
In Yekaterinburg, the memory of the dead was honored at the Black Tulip monument.. Representatives of executive authorities, law enforcement agencies, the headquarters of the Central Military District, national and cultural associations, religious denominations, public and youth organizations, as well as ordinary residents of the Sverdlovsk region gathered near the monument.
“The terrorists aim at frightening civilians so much that they, in a state of stress, would force the government to take actions against its own interests. The victims of terrorists are civilians: children, old people, and women. Hospitals, schools and other social infrastructure facilities also fall under the blow of criminals. Today, we are seeing threats of a nuclear catastrophe at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. We must not forget those who died because of terrorist attacks, and our vigilance can become a reliable shield of peace and order in the country,” Sergei Voronin, USUE Rector’s advisor for Patriotic Education, said.
In memory of the victims of the terrorist attack, USUE College students laid flowers at the Black Tulip monument and lit candles.
