“We want our students to study in your region...”

Today, USUE was visited by a delegation from Zimbabwe. The rector of the university, Yakov Silin, and the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Amon Murwira, discussed possible cooperation in education.

USUE rector Yakov Silin was the first to take the floor: “The Urals is an important industrial region of Russia. The Sverdlovsk region has a robust economy and one of the most effective education systems in the country. USUE is the only specialized economic university in the entire Urals. It trains 16 thousand students and about 3 thousand of them are foreigners. There are 62 states in Africa. Today, USUE maintains partnerships with 32 countries of this continent and continues to expand this area. We look forward to collaborating!”

The Republic of Zimbabwe actively cooperates with Russia. Over the past five years, the number of cooperation agreements has significantly increased, especially in the social, economic and educational spheres. There are agreements on science, development of innovations, and energy. Now the country is interested to cooperate with the Russian Federation in higher education.

“The Sverdlovsk region plays an important role for Zimbabwe, since 40% of energy and 12% of metallurgy are supplied to our country from the Urals. Our goal is to establish long-term relationships not only in the economic sphere but also in the field of education. We want our students to study in your region and be able to travel around it. There are currently about 1,300 students from Zimbabwe studying in Russia and there are only seven of them in the Urals. We are committed to increasing the number of such students,” Amon Murwira said.

Cooperation between universities will make it possible to exchange students and teachers, jointly organize and participate in scientific events, and develop educational programs, teaching aids and socially significant projects.

The minister also noted that this year, representatives of Zimbabwe universities would come to the Urals to get to know the region better. In addition, Amon Murwira invited our scientists to visit universities in his country.

After the meeting, Yakov Silin gave the guests a tour of the university. He also spoke about the history of the Eurasian Economic Youth Forum.
