We are against bribes: an anti-corruption master class at USUE

December 7, Ural State University of Economics gathered experts in the field of politics, law, and business. They discussed the constructive cooperation of civil society institutions with government bodies in countering corruption.

The master class "Socially-oriented Non-Profit Organizations and Youth Against Corruption" was held in the framework of the anti-corruption forum of the Sverdlovsk region.

Director General of the Union of Small and Medium Business of the Sverdlovsk region, Associate Professor of UrFU Department of Philosophy Vyacheslav Arkhangelsky and USUE Vice-rector for Academic Affairs Sergey Rogozhin noted the importance of the master class and stressed that the anti-corruption forum is regularly held at the University in different formats.

The discussion began with a report delivered by the chair of the USUE Department of Business Law Gafur Mansurov. The expert described what corruption was and how to deal with it.

"We need to understand what it is. The fact is that there is no such term in the criminal code. Corruption has many manifestations, the most important of which is bribery. The government has always fought against it. The Federal Law "On Combating Corruption" operating on the territory of our country says that corruption includes aspects related to giving and receiving bribes, commercial bribery or other illegal use of one’s official position for profit. However this wording implies some uncertainties," Gafur Mansurov said.

The development and daily execution of the Code of Business Conduct in each organization or entity of small and medium-sized business in Yekaterinburg is the basis for the prevention of corruption. This was said in the report by the Director General of the Union of Small and Medium-Sized Business of the Sverdlovsk region Vyacheslav Arkhangelsky.

The importance of the anti-corruption legislation of the Russian Federation was noted by the Associate Professor of the USUE Department of Business Law, deputy director for security of Uralplast Maxim Permyakov.

Maxim Kyrchikov, Deputy Chairman of the Youth Government of the Sverdlovsk region, spoke about the role of youth self-government bodies and public associations of the Sverdlovsk Region in organizing anti-corruption activities.

In his final speech, Vyacheslav Arkhangelsky summed up the master class and thanked the colleagues for their participation.
