New horizons for cooperation

A delegation from India visited Ural State University of Economics. Acting rector of the university, Yakov Silin, and Consul General of India in Yekaterinburg, Mr. Debabrata Chattopadhyay, discussed prospects for cooperation in education.

The meeting was also attended by USUE vice-rector for Social Work and Youth Policy, Roman Krasnov, and the Consul of India in Yekaterinburg, Mr.Anurag Nayan.

Yakov Silin welcomed the foreign delegation and emphasized the Sverdlovsk region’s multinational nature: “More than 150 nationalities live here. India also has many ethnic and religious groups. In this respect, we have much in common. USUE alone trains students from 69 countries. Our university is interested in collaborating with universities abroad, especially in the fields of economics, finance, and biotechnologies. We know Indian universities are very good.”

The Consul General of India in Yekaterinburg, Debabrata Chattopadhyay, expressed his interest in cooperation between the two countries. The diplomat emphasized that Indian representative office covers 17 regions of Russia, including the Sverdlovsk region.

“The consulate sees great opportunities for cooperation with your region: metallurgy, mining, and many other sectors are well-developed here. Today, economics is a special field, and many people would like to study it. Therefore, we wish to develop cooperation in education as well. We already work with many of Russian leading universities and will help transfer your initiatives to our partners,” Debabrata. Chattopadhyay said.

The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries. Yakov Silin emphasized that today there are 11 Indian students at USUE. The Consul General, in turn, presented a scholarship project for Russian students studying in India.

Yakov Silin spoke about the university’s strong point – its scientific journals: Manager, Journal of New Economy, Food Industry, and Digital Models and Solutions, which are among the best in the country. At the end of the meeting, the acting rector invited the delegation to the 16th Eurasian Economic Youth Forum, which will be held on April 21-24, 2026.

International cooperation is an integral and important part of the USUE’s strategic development. The University is actively collaborating with four Indian universities, including Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Manav Rachna University, Lovely Professional University, and Lok Jagruti Kendra University.
