Today, Ural State University of Economics (USUE) officially inaugurated the Russian Language Center in the People's Republic of China, hosted by the Shandong Shengli Vocational College in the city of Dongying.

Yakov Silin, acting rector of USUE, joined the opening ceremony via video link. The establishment of the Center was made possible under the agreements reached during the 16th Eurasian Economic Youth Forum.
“The traditions of friendship between the Chinese and Russian peoples span many decades. The leaders of our nations — President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and President of Russia Vladimir Putin — set an excellent example for both our peoples and the entire world of cooperation between two great powers. We are delighted to have the opportunity to establish the Russian Language Center at your college. For many years, the Consulate General of the PRC has been operating successfully in Yekaterinburg, and we have enjoyed fruitful cooperation with it throughout all these years. The creation of the Center is yet another significant step toward bringing our peoples closer together, fostering mutual appreciation of our cultures, and ensuring bright development prospects for both our countries and higher education institutions. I would like to express my gratitude to the leadership of the Institute for supporting this initiative. Any long journey begins with a single step: today we take this step together as we form the very first student group, and we sincerely hope that this journey will be successful,” noted Yakov Silin.

The Chinese partners also emphasized the profound significance of the event. Zhang Yuzhen, President of the Shandong Shengli Vocational College, highlighted: “The opening of the Russian Language Center at our college is a milestone event. We are deeply grateful to Ural State University of Economics for their trust and support. I am confident that this project will become a reliable bridge for our students, opening doors for them into the world of Russian education and culture.”

Attending the event in person were Roman Krasnov, USUE vice-rector for social work and youth policy; Ren Xiaojing, project coordinator; Zhang Jiamin, director of the International Institute; and Wang Qi, senior lecturer at the International Institute, along with heads of other educational organizations of the PRC.
The first cohort of the Russian Language Center consists of 15 Chinese citizens, who will undertake a one-year program. The students have already commenced their language classes.
The event marks a vital step in strengthening educational and cultural ties between Russia and China, as well as in promoting the Russian language abroad. The primary goal of this international educational project is to prepare future students for studies at Russian universities and support those who wish to build professional or personal connections with Russia. Upon completing their training at the Russian Language Center, Chinese citizens will be eligible to enroll in Russian higher education institutions and pursue degrees across any academic field.

The initiative to establish Russian Language Centers plays a vital role in the strategic development of international cooperation for Ural State University of Economics. Currently, such centers are already successfully operating in Egypt and Sri Lanka, with dozens of graduates having already completed their training programs.
