Education without borders

Ural State University of Economics has launched a bachelor’s program at Mudanjiang Normal University (MNU). Students from the Chinese university will be able to get a Russian diploma in Law.

Director of the USUE Institute of Continuous and Distance Education Ekaterina Yalunina met with the rector of Mudanjiang Normal University Chunjiang Li, vice-rector for international and academic affairs Bin Zhang, and vice-rector for science and accreditation, Minghui Zuo.

The meeting participants opened a joint educational program in the area of training Jurisprudence, specialization Business and Law. Students from China will study simultaneously at USUE and Mudanjiang Normal University. The first two years of study will be held in a mixed-attendance mode using distance technologies. Then the students will come to Yekaterinburg to continue their studies in person. The total duration of study will be four years.

According to Ekaterina Yalunina, Director of the USUE Institute of Continuous and Distance Education, students from China have shown interest in receiving higher education at USUE under an accelerated program. Upon completion of their studies, graduates of the program will become certified specialists who will shape the business climate between enterprises in China and Russia. Students from Asia see prospects in establishing trade and business ties in various sectors of the economy, and lawyers play an important role in protecting the interests of both entrepreneurs and consumers.

Besides launching of the educational program, the top managers discussed the engagement of scientists from the USUE Department of Business Law to work at the Legal Research Center, which operates at Mudanjiang Normal University. They are planning joint scientific research.

For USUE, it is important to include and use digital instruments in the curriculum, including for future lawyers. Thus, teachers and students of Mudanjiang Normal University showed USUE representatives a virtual laboratory that operates at the Legal Research Center. They presented a case simulating the work of judges and lawyers during a court session. During the current year, the partner universities are to adapt this software product for Russian-speaking students.

The visit ended with a visit to the MNU Institute of Law and an online workshop on integrating the Russian and Chinese legal systems, ensuring the development of bilateral economic and legal cooperation. Particular attention was paid to creating an association to train lawyers with international legal specialization at Mudanjiang Normal University.

  

Mudanjiang Normal University is a leading university in Heilongjiang Province, located in Mudanjiang city. The university trains specialists in humanities. Many famous foreign scholars work at the university as visiting professors, such as public officials from South Korea, Mrs. Park Geun-hye and from Japan, Mr. Shinzo Abe.

Today, about 50 thousand Chinese citizens receive higher education in Russia, and about 16 thousand Russians in China. Over 160 bilateral educational programs are being implemented, and 28 institutes with Russian participation are being operated. The interaction of Russia and China in science and education is one of the priority areas of the entire complex of Russian-Chinese relations.
