Education comes first!

January 11, USUE rector Yakov Silin held a press conference. It was attended by journalists from TV companies of Polevskoy, Pervouralsk, and Nizhny Tagil. Yakov Silin told media representatives about results in research and public life achieved by the region’s leading economic university in 2023.

Yakov Silin noted that today Ural State University of Economics occupies a high position in the educational space of the country, as evidenced by world and Russian rankings.

“Our scientific journals have reached the highest positions. Upravlenets is recognized as the best journal in the ranking of the scientific electronic library (elibrary.ru), while Journal of New Economy is in the seventh place. Being a regional university, we are located in the heart of the Urals, in the Sverdlovsk region, where education and science are flourishing. Our experienced and strong academic teaching staff proves this,” Yakov Silin emphasized.

They also discussed the special demand for economic education in the new geopolitical conditions for Russia.

“Miracles don’t happen! After countless Western sanctions imposed in connection with the special military operation, the Russian economy did not collapse, because it is steered by highly skilled professionals capable of developing the country. We train them, too! USUE has one of the highest employment rates for graduates - 90% find jobs within their specialty in the first months after receiving their degree. This means that we provide a decent education, quickly respond to the demands of society and the state, modifying our programs,” Yakov Silin noted.

They also touched upon preparations for a key event in the business life of the region - the XIV Eurasian Economic Youth Forum. It will take place at the end of April. USUE rector noted that, despite the attacks of Western countries, interest in Russia among foreigners is growing. Thus, a year after the start of the special military operation, representatives of 107 countries of the world became participants in the EEYF.

“The theme of this year’s forum is ‘Russia—Eurasia—World. Integration—Development—Prospect.’ As the title suggests, we will talk not only about ourselves but also about a completely new historical role of Eurasia. The discussion of prospects evoked a great response from our partners. On the first day after registration opened, over 900 persons submitted applications. Now their number has exceeded 1300, including 13 diplomatic representatives, 30 rectors and vice-rectors, 162 guests, and 211 experts. People take part and come to us in Yekaterinburg because they want to know how business, enterprises, government and the educational system of Russia work,” Yakov Silin said.

At the end of the press conference, USUE rector Yakov Silin invited applicants and their parents to the Open Day to be held on January 20, 2024, at 13.00.
