Educational Alliance

Ural State University of Economics was visited by scientists and businessmen from the People’s Republic of China. It was devoted to cooperation between universities of the Celestial Empire and the leading economic university of the Urals and joint training of students from both countries.

USUE was represented by Rector, Yakov Silin, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Teaching Methods and Quality of Training, Dmitry Karkh, Vice-Rector for Social Work and Youth Policy, Roman Krasnov, Vice-Rector for Research, Viktor Kovalev, and director of the Institute of Continuous and Distance Education, Ekaterina Yalunina.

The Chinese side was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Russian Language, assistant to the Rector for International Affairs of Mudanjiang Normal University, Wang Xinghua, chairperson of the Western Returned Scholars Association in Henan Province, Doctor of Sciences Yu Zijie, General Manager of Zhengzhou Recruiting Company, Qi Yang, PhD Liu Zhou and General Manager of International Investment Company, He Tongying.

Opening the meeting, Yakov Silin emphasized USUE was ready for productive cooperation: “Our university maintains good and friendly relations with Russia- friendly countries. Many Russian companies have been cooperating with Chinese enterprises for decades. In Yekaterinburg, we have the largest Chinese diaspora in the entire Ural region. Therefore, it is easier for those who come from China to study here, because there are many of their fellow countrymen here. I would like to note that your students study very conscientiously.”

USUE and Mudanjiang Normal University are already cooperating. Since 2024, four Chinese students have enrolled in the joint double-degree bachelor’s program, and five have begun master’s programs in Jurisprudence majoring in Business and Law. Upon graduation from both universities, they will receive Russian and Chinese diplomas. Today, the parties intend to expand the number of joint educational programs. Chinese representatives noted that Russian education is valued in their homeland.

“After defending my PhD thesis in Russia, I got a job at Mudanjiang Normal University, where I hold a leadership position. This is a good indicator that Russia, the Russian language and culture have a strong influence on Chinese culture. Therefore, your culture is a special driving force for us,” noted Wang Xinghua, a guest at the meeting.

As of today, 117 students from the People’s Republic of China study at USUE. This number is growing every year, and not without reason.

“The Chinese view Russia as a country of opportunities because they have a few places in master’s programs. A large youth population in the People’s Republic of China compels them to seek new educational markets. They consider Russia a promising direction. Our university is certainly ready for cooperation and will be glad to welcome them within its walls,” said Ekaterina Yalunina, director of the USUE Institute of Continuous and Distance Education.

Following the meeting, the parties will consider their proposals for further cooperation. In turn, Yakov Silin invited the delegation to take part in the XV Eurasian Economic Youth Forum, which will be held on April 21-25.
