The career guidance camp has opened at Ural State University of Economics. During four days,114 schoolchildren from Kurgan, Chernushka (Perm Krai), Nefteyugansk, Priobye (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug), Neryungri (Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)) will get acquainted with the leading economic university in the Urals.

At the opening of the camp, one of the most picturesque was the delegation of senior school students from Yakutia. The children wore bastyngas. This is a national headdress of hoop-type with chains-pendants hanging on both sides. The circle in the center represents the sun and the black and white patterns symbolize the deer footprints in the snow. The schoolchildren have travelled a long way to get to USUE: 19 hours by train, then a crossing of the Lena River, and a six-hour flight from Yakutsk to Yekaterinburg by plane, which, because of circumstances, was delayed for two days. Despite the tiresome journey, the children are positive and stay open-minded.

“I’m still thinking about where I’ll go after school. I favor the humanities. I’m considering such areas of study as Journalism and Jurisprudence. At the masterclasses from USUE teachers, I would like to learn how websites are set up,” a tenth-grader from Neryungri, Olga Protopova, said.
The autumn session of senior school students is a traditional event at USUE. For eleven years now, schoolchildren from the northern regions of Russia spend their holidays after the first school term within the walls of the university.

“Our main goal is to help you choose your future profession. To do this, we will introduce you to the university’s facilities and resources, students, teachers, and hold useful practice-oriented classes,” Irina Martyanova, head of the USUE Admissions and Pre-University Training Office, greeted the guests.

The admissions committee staff told the students how the university is structured, what levels of education are offered at USUE, presented the official website, and discussed in detail the admissions procedure: when the application process begins, what additional points are awarded to the Unified State Exam results, and what exams are best to take.

“Accepting documents to all colleges and universities in Russia will begin on June 20, 2025. I recommend taking not three but four exams to increase your chances for admission,” emphasized Ekaterina Pastushkova, head of the USUE Office for Career Guidance Counseling.

The organizers divide participants of the career guidance camp into nine groups. Each group has a counselor - a USUE activist in charge. Students will accompany high school seniors on excursions, masterclasses, and will practice team building. The USUE guests will attend an improvised court hearing, learn how to become successful business managers, get acquainted with modern trends in the food industry, and try on the roles of biotechnologists.

The autumn session of high-school students at USUE will end on November 1. After such an extensive educational program, the children will have to decide on their future profession, prepare well for the Unified State Exam, and then become part of the team.
