A PARALYMPIAN SERGEI BURLAKOV: THERE IS NOTHING IMPOSSIBLE!

Sergei Burlakov, a Russian Paralympian, a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, a record holder of the Guinness Book of Records, and "Man of the Planet" spoke to students of Ural State University of Economics about how love helped to reach any heights, about lenity and the reason of existence of men and women, and about many other things. .

The meeting with the guest was held as part of the USUE patriotic project Heroes Are among Us. Sergey Vladimirovich presented Letters of Thanks from the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation to students and University staff for their active participation in the development of the youth volunteer movement and achievements in scientific and technical creativity and told the story of his amazing life.
 
In 1991, while serving in the army, Sergei Burlakov met with an accident: it was a terrible accident and as a result, he had experienced clinical death, and doctors had to amputate both of his feet and of hands. The life of Sergei Burlakov was divided into "before" and "after", but rebelling his fate, Sergei Vladimirovich decided to seriously engage in sports.

In 2003, Sergei Burlakov was the only participant with a four-time amputation at the New York marathon. Today Sergey Burlakov is a multiple champion of Russia in track-and-field athletics and swimming among disabled athletes, a record holder of Russia and the World, as well as a master of sports in rifle shooting: he hit 600 targets out of 600! Sergey is also engaged in martial arts.

For his records, Sergei Burlakov received the title "Man of the Planet". The man practices hang-gliding with the help of a special device for his hands, and entered the Guinness Book of Records as "the first person on Earth who, with a four-time amputation, lifted an aircraft into the air."

A Paralympic athlete Sergei Burlakov is the first deputy chairperson of the commission on an accessible environment and the development of inclusive practices and, by decree of the President of Russia dated February 12, 2019, he was approved as a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.

The students asked Sergei Vladimirovich many questions about his dreams, plans, fears, and motivation. One of the students inquired about the memories of the clinical death experienced.
