STUDENT-STYLE PELMENI. MUSEUM OF USUE HISTORY STORES A UNIQUE EXHIBIT

The Museum of USUE History continues to conduct excursions. Today we will talk about an apparatus for cooking pelmeni (dumplings) - a unique exhibit created by the USUE students.

A large apparatus of steel is the first thing that visitors of the Museum of USUE History pay attention to.

A plate, a cylinder, a body of the heating chamber, a thermometer - and these are not all parts of the complex design that is intended for cooking dumplings.

"Before we talk about the device, we ask the visitors what they think about its purpose," a curator of the Museum of USUE History Elena Shusharina says.  "Usually we hear very different versions. And, of course, everyone is surprised when they learn about cooking pelmeni. "

The history of the device is funny and wrapped in legends. One of them says that a group of students living in a dormitory began to notice the regular loss of pelmeni from the pan in the common kitchen and to preserve them they decided to create an apparatus from which it would be impossible to get dumplings during cooking.

The second legend says: the unique device has become the theme of a degree work, and the Museum staff are more inclined to this version.

"There is a document showing that the thesis was indeed defended. One of the developers provided the commission with that model as a scientific work. It was with the help of this document that it became known that one of the authors of the technical work was a USUE student Ilnur Sirazetdinov, and the apparatus was created in 1982," the curator of the Museum tells.

The archive of the museum contains a thesis, consisting of calculations and diagrams.

With its help, you can see how carefully the author approached the development of his product. The work states the technical and economic indicators of the project. In the process of creation, the productivity of the device, the power of the heating devices, the wholesale price, the cost of the apparatus, and the cost of cooking had been taken into account. Besides, there are data on the annual economic effect and operating costs for cooking: depreciation, wages, energy costs, and so on.

The apparatus for cooking dumplings is located in the Museum of USUE History since the 90s and, of course, no one is cooking with this machine: some details are missing.

The Museum staff say that, despite this, its popularity among visitors is only growing. They also note that the uniqueness of this device is not challenged, which once again proves: there is no limit to student ingenuity.
