Turn to the South-East
USUE will strengthen cooperation with the universities of the Eurasian Network University. The expansion of cooperation was announced by the Russian economist, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Sergei Glazyev.
During his recent visit to the Ural region, Sergei Glazyev took part in the forum of rectors within the XIII EEYF, and also met with representatives of the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
According to the expert, a new core of development is currently being formed in the world economy. And that core is Southeast Asia. By 2030, the countries of the region will produce and export by one-half to two times more high-tech products than the current leaders - the United States and the European Union put together. Under these conditions, Russia’s reorientation towards interaction with this region is completely justified and logical. In this process of forming a single economic, cultural, and, no less important, scientific and educational space, the interaction of higher educational institutions plays a crucial role, since the development of the human and intellectual capital of the EAEU is directly related to the training of highly qualified specialists. The Eurasian Network University (ENU) was established to solve this problem. Today, the Eurasian Network University includes 19 universities from Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and other countries of the Eurasian region. The Ural region of the Russian Federation is represented by Ural State University of Economics.
“I have scientific, professional and even spiritual kinship with the university. Together we are implementing a lot of useful and, as it seems to me, important initiatives,” Glazyev noted. “It is not the first year that USUE has actually been the driving force of the education of our youth in the Eurasian vein. Now we are together forming the Eurasian educational space, forming the Eurasian Network University. We face the task of creating modern models of interaction between universities, and, most importantly, between students and teachers.”
During the XIII EEYF, Sergei Glazyev was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor of USUE. In response, he stated he was ready to personally take part in teaching students, as well as to contribute to the expansion of USUE ties with other Eurasian universities.
During the meeting with representatives of the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the expert called on enterprises to allocate more resources for R&D (research and development work), since high technologies are an important competitive advantage in the economy. To achieve this goal, a interlinking is needed between financial and industrial groups and university research centers, such as USUE.
Sergei Glazyev for several years was an adviser to the President of the Russian Federation on the development of integration within the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, and the Republic of Kazakhstan, and served as Minister of Foreign Economic Relations of the Russian Federation. Sergei Glazyev is also the author of many books and publications on economics and international politics. His next visit to Yekaterinburg may take place this summer as part of the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the Ural capital.
