Rights shall be rights anywhere including social networks

A USUE student Darya Borovykh was the best speaker at the interuniversity roundtable “Civil Law. Challenges of the Present”. She competed with students from law schools of Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Saratov, and Vladimir.

The event was held in a combined online and offline format. The participants studied in depth certain aspects of the civil law of the Russian Federation, changes and concerns of legislation through a prism of modern time.

Under the leadership of acting head of the Department of Business Law, USUE, Alexey Goloviznin, the student Daria Borovykh prepared a report "Legal regulation of a social network in the Russian Federation."

“In connection with the banning of Instagram and Facebook in Russia and the prospect of creating new domestic social networks, the talks on the legal regulation of their activities has become especially hot. The very concept of “social network” was fixed not so long ago and there is no full-fledged law on which courts and lawyers could rely. However, I have analyzed our legislation and found out what regulations one can use to protect one’s images and texts — these are the most common objects of offence. At the roundtable, we discussed that so far the law does not regulate the actions of minors in social networks, but it is a long past time to change this. However, the fact that our government has managed to block some platforms is already a big step forward towards interaction with social networks within the legal framework!” Daria Borovykh explained.

The report provoked a lively discussion. As a result, the competent jury, consisting of representatives of the participating universities, awarded Daria the 1st place.

We congratulate Darya Borovykh on her win and wish her further scientific success!
