We develop food technologies in the CIS

USUE was visited by a delegation from Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology (Republic of Uzbekistan). The main purpose of the visit was to establish cooperation between specialized departments of universities in food technology and food engineering.

USUE Rector Yakov Silin and Rector of Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology Odiljon Mamatkarimov discussed the prospects for cooperation in higher education in Russia and Uzbekistan.

“USUE is open to cooperation! To date, we have signed agreements with nine universities in Uzbekistan. We develop interaction in a variety of areas: scientific research, teacher internships, participation in science-to-practice conferences, and joint educational programs. We are ready to share our experience and best practices,” Professor Silin emphasized.

Rector Odiljon Mamatkarimov noted Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology ranks 3rd in the national ranking of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Today, there are over 9 thousand students at the Institute:

“We are actively establishing foreign contacts. Ural State University of Economics is acknowledged to be a university with high standards in educational and scientific spheres. Our priority is to build cooperation in food technology, chemistry and economics.”

During the negotiations, the representatives discussed potential areas of cooperation and outlined steps that could be taken in the near future. In particular, scientists from Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology invited the USUE delegation on a return visit to assess facilities and resources of the Institute.

“There is a dissertation council at USUE for such specialties as Food Systems and Biotechnology of Food and Bioactive Substances. I propose to establish an exchange of extended abstracts of dissertations and include each other in mailing lists related to food technologies. The next step that we can take by our efforts is to act as opponents in the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations,” suggested USUE Vice-Rector for Research Viktor Kovalev.

Another area of work is joint educational programs. The management of Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology was interested in the successful experience of cooperation between USUE and Tashkent State University of Economics. Last year, 277 citizens of Uzbekistan received dual degrees of two economic universities. The delegation of Namangan Institute proposed to develop a project for a joint master’s degree program.

“I am confident that we will find common ground on some issues of the educational process: not only master’s degree programs but also bachelor’s ones, publication of joint textbooks, public lectures on catering technology,” Dmitry Karkh, USUE Vice -Rector for Academic Affairs, Teaching Methods and Quality of Training, added.

Besides, during the visit, our partners from Uzbekistan came to see the USUE Unified Laboratory Complex. Its employees informed about the research results of food products, food additives, and feeding-stuffs carried out by future food technologists and showed the equipment. The employees at the forensic laboratory conducted a master class on fingerprinting and identifying counterfeit banknotes for their foreign colleagues. At the virtual laboratory, the guests plunged into the computer world.

The delegation of Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology will work in Yekaterinburg until July 6
