Regional economics in the system of spatial economics

Ural State University of Economics hosted the roundtable “Evolution of Regional Economics in Russia”. It was timed to coincide with two anniversaries of the Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Geography, USUE professor Yevgeny Animitsa. Today he is celebrating his 85th birthday and the 60th anniversary of research activities at our university.

Yevgeny Georgievich Animitsa is one of the leading Russian experts in regional economics, the founder and head of the scientific school. He believes that the regional economics in Russia should be directly related to the characteristics and culture of our country: “One of the major discoveries of Russian science is economic zoning, which makes it easier to manage a large territory of our country. Foreign scientists have no such works!”.

Competent strategic planning and management of a region or city increase the effectiveness of socio-economic development. This conclusion was made by Ivan Antipin, head of the USUE Department of Regional and Municipal Economics and Management, in his report “Efficiency of Strategic Planning in Million-plus Cities of the Russian Federation”: “I have proved this by analyzing official statistics on the socio-economic development of cities for 2002-2022. All Russian million-plus cities were taken for analysis, but not super-large ones. These included 14 cities: Krasnodar, Volgograd, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Perm, Rostov -on-Don, Samara, Ufa, and Chelyabinsk.”

“Today we celebrate the anniversary of Yevgeny Animitsa, a person who took an active part in the creation, formation, development and designing of USUE strategy. I am proud that he was my teacher. I wish you, Yevgeny Georgievich, well-being and long life!” Yakov Silin, USUE rector, congratulated the hero of the day.

USUE Vice-Rector for Social Work and Youth Policy, Roman Krasnov, addressed the audience: “Yevgeny Animitsa always leads the way how to treat the work done and research findings. I wish Yevgeny Georgievich many happy returns of the day and good health.”

About 30 scientists from Yekaterinburg, Perm, Simferopol, Chelyabinsk, Verkhnyaya Tura, and Moscow met at the roundtable “Evolution of the Regional Economy in Russia” at USUE in online and offline formats.

At USUE, scientists discussed the development of the regional economics in Russia.
