Homeland can be different...

Ural State University of Economics held a multimedia presentation contest in English for international students — “Homelands are Different, but Everybody Has His Only One!” Participants prepared presentations highlighting interesting facts about their home countries.

16 students from Nigeria, Cameroon, Togo, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Sudan, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria attended the competition.

In their presentations, students from various countries tried to highlight the uniqueness of their cultures and their country’s place in the modern world. Nabijhon Orzuev, a first-year student at the USUE Department of Marketing and International Management, came to Yekaterinburg from Tajikistan to study. He spoke in English about the history, traditions, achievements, and economy of his native country. His confident presentation earned him victory in the contest.

At the end of the presentation, each participant confessed his/her love for his / her homeland, answering the question “Why do I love my homeland?”

“I love my homeland because it’s where my parents and I were born. Besides, we have a very interesting language. No matter how life proceeds, people always remember their homeland,” Nabijhon said.

The participants were judged by teachers from the USUE Department of Business Foreign Languages.

“The first thing that struck me was the sincerity and warmth each speaker spoke about their homeland. It was clear that for them, it wasn’t just a geographical point on a map, but a part of their personal identity, a source of pride and memories. These presentations left a pleasant feeling, like I’d been on a round-the-world trip without leaving the classroom. We learned facts about different countries and also realized how much in common people have, despite geographical and cultural differences,” noted Natalia Zolotareva, senior lecturer at the USUE Department of Business Foreign Languages.

Based on the results of the contest, the organizers distributed the prize places as follows:
