Today, the 9th All-Russia Economic Dictation is taking place across the country. Ural State University of Economics, as usual, served as the major venue of the event  in the Sverdlovsk region. For 40 minutes, thousands of USUE students tested their knowledge of economics.

The subject of the economic dictation was “Strong Economy Means Strong Russia!” Participants had 40 minutes to complete 30 tasks. A first-year USUE student, Polina Salova, took the dictation for the first time. Her score was quite good for a first-timer: 50 points out of 100.

“I hardly prepared for the dictation. It had historical questions. My parents took me to museums and on excursions since childhood, and that helped me succeed in the dictation. I think my knowledge of economics will be useful both in my studies and in life,” Polina said.

Today, approximately 5,000 USUE students, as well as several thousand schoolchildren, students from other universities and colleges, and business representatives, take the dictation. Back in the day, this number barely reached a thousand people in the region.

“For many years, the economic dictation has taken a key position in the Sverdlovsk region in terms of number of participants—usually first or second in the country. Today, the economic dictation aims to promote the usefulness of economic activity for the benefit of society and the country, as well as for the benefit of every individual. In the Ural region, we started with about a thousand participants; now, their number is approaching 10,000, and perhaps slightly more,” USUE Rector Yakov Silin noted.

On the eve of the dictation, at a TASS press conference, the president of the Free Economic Society of Russia and director of the S. Yu. Witte Institute for New Industrial Development, Professor Sergei Bodrunov, noted USUE’s contribution to the popularization of foreign economic activity.

“The significant development in the Urals is happening, in particular, thanks to the efforts of Ural State University of Economics. I would like to point out that USUE Rector Yakov Silinis personally is devoting considerable attention to this work. This event is expected to attract around 8,000 people. The university’s students and postgraduates taking part in the event include not only Russians but also representatives from Central Asian countries,” Sergei Bodrunov emphasized.

It is not only Russians who will answer economic questions in 2025. Eleven foreign countries have announced sites for hosting dictation: Belarus, Mongolia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Syria, China, and Argentina.

Anyone can take the dictation online at https://diktant.org/. Assignments are available from 7:00 AM to 12:00 AM Yekaterinburg time.

The results of the dictation will be presented on November 11 at the All-Russia Economic Assembly, dedicated to the 260th anniversary of the VEO of Russia and the professional holiday Economist’s Day.

The Free Economic Society of Russia has been conducting the All-Russia Economic Dictation since 2017. In 2024, 392,456 people tested their economic literacy. Only in the Sverdlovsk region, over 10,000 people tested their economic knowledge.
